Här presenterar Josh Sharpe lite "Whopper-nyheter inför 2009.

Posted this to rgp . . . for those that don't check out the newsgroup
often. Unfortunately getting tournaments to send full results will
most likely come down to players on rgp2 getting those Tournament
Directors into shape. I know we've been able to make some strides in
the right direction, but it is a shame to see how less valuable
tournaments like Pinball Expo are going to be in the new system
because it only had "16 participants" each year :(
(and yes . . . that is my already built in excuse should Elwin not be
#1 when we unveil the new rankings . . . which we don't know yet . . .
but we're working hard at getting the data in there!) :)

Hey everybody,

I'll be trying to contact Tournament Directors individually as those
shows approach, but wanted to make a general announcement since most
directors and players read the newsgroup.

The IFPA is making a complete overhaul to the WPPR system for 2009.
The changes we have made make getting full complete results a priority
for a tournament to be counted at its true value.

We will have complete information on the changes at
pinballrankings.com website once we have things ready to go "live",
but in summary please note the following major changes:

- IFPA endorsed leagues will now award points in the WPPR system. This
includes past results if those results are submitted to the IFPA
before February 1st. If you are a league President, and are interested
in becoming an IFPA endorsed league and awarding WPPR points, please
contact the IFPA immediately. If you are a league player and your
league currently is not IFPA endorsed, please pass this information
along to your league President.

- The value of tournaments will now be based on a formula that uses
the ranking position of the players participating to build a 'pot' as
to the value of that tournament. Important thing here is that EVERY
player that plays adds to this pot, so it is extremely important that
tournament directors track everyone that plays, and not just those
players that finish 1st through 4th, or those that qualified. The
value of a tournament with players missing will be severely impacted
in a negative way, because the calculation will only include those
players that were accounted for in the submission of results by the
Tournament Director.

- The distribution of points will now be based on a formula that
divides those points up from 1st place through last place. This makes
it extremely important that the IFPA gets full tournament results
including EVERY finishing position from top to bottom. A submission of
results with the top 4 finalists and a list of names will mean that
those list of names will all be counted as being tied, when this is
rarely the case.

We're very excited about unveiling the new system just as soon as it's
ready, but just wanted to get the word out to players to push back on
Tournament Directors to submit full results. Some tournaments with
online results make this easy, while others are still old school with
paper/pen results, making it harder to get true valuable information.
In the end, it will only help increase the points a player will
receive if these full results are consistently accounted for.

thanks,
Josh Sharpe
